Ubuntu Lodge is a play between positive and negative space. Stone spine walls extend like fingers into the landscape, defining interior spaces interspersed with cool courtyards with linear ponds.

The building sits in a tamboti forest, and frames the experience of being among the trees. There is a tangible connection between inside and outside. Timber screening mimics the verticality of the tamboti trunks so that the building blends in with the forest. Large, shaded outdoor areas and wide openings put the viewer into the view towards the Sabie River.
